Zaragata de Viamonte Lure Courses!

Zaragata de Viamonte made Lure Coursing History on April 28th and 29th, 2007 in Stow, Massachusetts!

On Saturday April 28th Zaragata de Viamonte, a Portuguese Podengo Pequeno Wire Hair, became the second Podengo Pequeno in the USA to become Certified and the first to run in a ASFA Lure Coursing Trial. Zaragata accomplished this by running a course over 650 yards long with a lovely Pharoah Hound Veteran Bitch named Zoe as a running mate.

Zaragata had to prove that she could run the entire course with a hound of similiar running style, not interfere with the other hound and complete the course with agility, enthusiasm and ability.

Zaragata was incredible! She took off after the Lure (which are 3 white Plastic Bags attached to a continual loop line) as if her life depended upon it. It would have been preferable to run Zaragata with another Podengo or a similiar smaller dog such as a Basenji, however as none were available, so we were pleased to accept the Pharoah Hound offer. The ASFA records coordinator has confirmed that Zaragata is indeed the first Podengo in the US to become Certified to compete in ASFA Lure Coursing trials.

On Sunday, April 29, Zaragata was back on the field again to run in the Limited Stakes. Only dogs which have been certified are allowed to run in this stake. Zaragata completed her two runs with agility, enthusiam, speed & style! I was happy to have her safely back in my arms again! It was thrilling to receive a beautiful Best of Breed Rosette on her behalf! Her name will now appear in the records as the first Podengo to have competed in Limited Stakes.

Go for it Zaragata!
