| | | Introduce only one new skill per session. No more than five repetitions per session. Do not move on until your dog understands whatever you are teaching him, if you do this will only cause confusion. Refrain from showing others what you are teaching your dog until you know he understands the new command or trick. Remember that these first few sessions shapes the building blocks of communication with your dog and engages him to pay attention and desire to please you, even if it is a treat pay off. Eventually you will not have to give him a treat. Keep it FUN, so your dog will be willing and happy to learn. Most dogs are willing if they understand what you expect from them. It's my experience that dogs, horses, and birds are very trainable and I actually use the same training techniques, such as choosing the right time to train, when they are bored, lonely and hungry. Plus finding an area free from distractions and go to that area every time you train. Do not over train !!! Keep your student wanting more!!! I have had great success using this method with all three types of animals, and I know that if I can anyone can, you just have to have the desire, and what a wonderful journey when your animal reALLY GETS IT !!!!! You and your animal will be a team just like this awesome picture !!!!
