Get Ready To Train !!! 101
Remember one of the pit falls of good training is not having a plan, so before we begin lets ponder some things that maybe you have never thought about when it comes to producing the right environment for you and your dog to be successful. Can you imagine any teacher not having an agenda for teaching? Also a good teacher must not only have a plan and the desire to teach but has to know how to handle their students. Remember to chose a room in you home that is free from distractions/toys and windows, this will help your dog keep his attention on you. After you have your classroom lets think about the best time to train your dog. You must be able to read your dog, is he tired? in a great mood? lonely? or maybe bored like Cowboy Spank? In order to create the best environment for learning your dog needs to be lonely, bored and hungry (if he is treat motivated) These pictures represent some canine moods and only two would be a good time to train, one is Cowboy Spank, he is bored, lonely and had very little food, also the picture of Spanky giving me good solid eye contact!!! The picture of Spanky playing with Diego would definitely be a bad time , they are having way to much fun, and the agility dog would be too tired, as well as after a big show. Know how to read your dogs mood in order to keep training time simple and successful. Tip #1 Find your classroom. Tip #2 Train your dog when he is bored, lonely and hungry. Practice reading your dogs moods this week, and check back, we are almost ready to teach your dog anything you desire !!! Oh, I almost forgot, if your dog likes to watch T.V., you must turn it off !!! LOL
