PPPCA was founded in 2003 with members elected every two years to the PPPCA governing board. This Board includes Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) and five Directors. In total, the Board includes nine (9) members. In 2005 and 2007 the elections were uncontested and the slate recommended by the nominating committee was approved by the membership in accord with PPPCA bylaws.
The Electoral Process - A Description
For the 2009 elections, the Nominating Committee made its report, which was distributed electronically to the membership, at which time all members were invited to seek nomination by petition as stated in the PPPCA Bylaws. A number of candidates responded and PPPCA had its first contested election. All positions, with the exception of that of PPPCA President, were contested. Seventeen candidates ran for office.
Ballots were sent out to each PPPCA elector (voting member) on March 1st and were to be received by the Inspector of Elections, a professional Parliamentarian retained by the PPPCA, by March 25th. The Ballot also included detailed instructions and Bios for each of the candidates. Candidates were listed in alphabetical order by office. 80% of PPPCA members eligible to vote did so -- this is an outstanding turnout for any type of election anywhere.! Membership has grown rapidly since our last election, along with the popularity of the breed.
