| | | | I'm all ears for your stories! | This is Our Voice
Hello, I'm Manny, the first wire coat Portuguese Podengo to come to America. I arrived early in 2001 and did a lot of stuff that put Podengos on the map here. Like getting interviewed by magazines and newspapers and showing off in all kinds of shows and becoming the first ever Podengo US champion. I've been looking at websites about Podengos and found this one -- but decided something is missing. Seriously missing -- OUR point of view. So the PPCA has been kind enough to share their website with us. Nice!
Here it is, web pages created especially by and for Podengos, focusing on the fabulous small Podengo. Full name is the Podengo Portugues Pequeno. That means rabbit hunting dog of Portugal that is small. In England they call us Warren Hounds. Here we call ourselves Podengos. That's us!
This is where you all can write to me and share your thoughts. We are more than 220 strong, quite a change since I came here, the first Pequeno wire coat, in 2001. Sweet little Zara da Casal de Pauves was the first smooth coat Pequeno in the United States, she came in 1995 and crossed the Rainbow Bridge in April 2008. We will always have her in our hearts.
Feel free to write and share your hopes, dreams and fun stuff with me at podengoland@aol.com Keep those letters coming!
Always,
Manny

Dearest Manny, What more can I say?.. Yours, Za-Za

From Luis Manny,
My name is Luis. I live in California with the Faria family. I have a problem. I have fallen in love with a very large woman. She is an Ibizan Hound and fantastic. My humans tell me I can only have a platonic relationship with her and I'm fine with that-she's really tall!! I like this site and the ability to talk to others of my kind and size. Keep up the good words.

Hercules Speaks!
Hi Gang! Being a new citizen of the USA, my friend Estrela told me to contact you! I am Hercules da Terra de Montoito, and am a proud 8 months of age! Boy, is there a lot to see and do here in the States. I am learning the language and especially like hearing 'Good Dog". It brings me lots of good things to eat! I am learning how to be polite, wait my turn in all things, and trot nicely-not run- in the show ring. I am already excelling in that!!! I'm already a BIG winner,at least that's what those humans say!
Everyone has extended me a HUGE WELCOME! What a wonderful, friendly place America is! It certainly is the 'Land of Opportunity'! LOTS and LOTS of tasty treats! Glad to be here! |

Hey Dad! Long time no see!
Thanks for the email. Erin has attached a picture of me, since I haven't gotten the hang of the computer, yet. In fact, I don't have much interest in it. I much prefer the Tinker Toys the boys leave on the ground for me to chew...
My name is Chauncey Oswaldo Coulter, I live on eastern Long Island and my birthday is December 7, 2003 (but you already knew that!). My favorite pastime is running in the fields and on the beach, playing catch with the boys, and sleeping on the big bed. I'm also addicted to pulling hats off people's heads, I just can't stop it!
Thanks for keeping in touch, Dad.
Your son,
Chauncey |
News From Lali
| | | | Eulalia do Porto Novo |
Hi
My name is Eulalia do Porto Novo but everyone calls me Lali (or Lali-pop!). I was born in November 2007 so I'm still young. I live in Longmeadow, MA with my best friend Zangao de Viamonte. He's been teaching me all about being a Podengo! We like to play in the snow and chase squirrels in the backyard. I'm a people-puppy and love to give lots of kisses! I will be learning how to camp and hike this summer. I hope to get to Old Saybrook soon to visit my parents Caia and Bucky. They'll be so impressed at how big I am now! I miss my best lap buddy Kip! |

Hi
My name is Zangao de Viamonte. I live in Longmeadow, MA with my best friend Lali. Although I was born in Portugal, I really enjoy the New England weather. Lali and I love to play in the snow and run around in the backyard. I'm a great hiker and working on becoming a member of the 4,000 foot club in New England. Last summer I bagged four- 4,000 foot peaks and this year I hope to add another 8! I also participate in many charity walks throughout the year including Fidelco and JDRF. I went through Pet Therapy training and passed the Delta Society certification last fall. I hope to begin my work in a local children's hospital soon. I love kids and they seem to love me too~ |
Spanky Speaks
| | | Ahoy Cap'n Manny !!! It's Spanky here !!!
Love your new site !!!!, its very informative and entertaining !!! As I was pondering looking at your picture, it occurred to me that you are a dog rendition of a pirate !!!! Now Manny let me be clear about this, you only look like a pirate because pirates were bad, really reprehensible, so I'm not for one minute suggesting that you act like a pirate, but just look the mere image of swaggering pirateness. I went to the Specialty this week and your coming to America has had a big impact on the dog world, I was agast at all of the Podengos who have come to America in a few short years !!! "Arrr," the wenches drove me crazy, and would have loved to drop anchor !!!! :) and saw many that I would have walked the plank for !!!! There are so many people in love with our breed !!!! Well blow me down Manny, its not just because you don an eye patch, but you do do act like Pirate because you stole Marilyn's heart and are responsible for the beginning of Podengo history in America, so I send you due respect and a bottle of rum !!! Your cabin boy, Spank |
Vida Love to Bucky February note:
Hi Bucky baby, I sure wish we lived closer. We could sneak out and REALLY get to know each other. I think you know what I mean! I would love to be lying there on the grass with you like we did last summer.
Ciao, Vida
March 24, 2008:
Hi Bucky, I'm so disappointed I just had to write and tell you about it. I am coming in heat ( you know what that is I'm sure) and my human has told me I'm too young to go and have my first experience with the man of my dreams - YOU. Please be patient and wait for me. By the end of the year I will be mature enough to come and visit. Wait for me!!
Always, Vida |

To Manny
This is Estrela, the "star" from the state of Iowa. What a wonderful site! We (the little ones) can now be the Voices of America! We can show the world how lucky we are to be a part of this wonderful Portuguese Breed! It is nice to have you as moderator . Because you were one of the first Pequenos to reach the shores of America, you can be the "guiding light" for we that are now here and for those yet to come! Lead the way!!!!
