PPCA represents one of the three kinds of Podengos -- the Podengo Pequeno. The three Podengo breeds are: Podengo, Podengo Medio, and Podengo Grande. Each breed comes in two varieties: smooth coat and wire coat.
The PPCA uses the Portuguese rather than English names for the sizes to emphasize the "Portuguese-ness" of the breed. We feel strongly that the Podengo should not be Americanized.
These Portuguese words are pronounced differently than might be obvious to an English (or Spanish) language speaker. Here is a pronuciation guide supplied by PPCA member Tony Dias, in case you want to try to pronounce the sizes in the correct Portuguese way:
