PPPCA at AKC Matches! |  | |
Beginning in May, 2008, Portuguese Podengos have been participating in AKC B Sanction Matches that invite Rare Breeds. The first such Match was on May 25, 2008, when the the Kenilworth Kennel Club of Connecticut hosted a match which extended an invitation to rare breeds. Held at the Guilford, Connecticut Fairgrounds, twelve Portuguese Podengos showed up for fun in the sun with their owners and friends in the first AKC show ever where Podengos could earn points towards a PPPCA championship.
An educational area was visited by exhibitors, judges and spectators and proved to be very popular. The Podengos themselves were delightful meeters and greeters and their people had great fun. It was a sunny day and a happy one.
We are grateful to the KKC for this first wonderful opportunity to share our breed with other dog aficionados. Since then, Podengo Pequenos owned by PPPCA members have been seen in more than 40 AKC Matches across the United States and at more than 150 educational events. And on January 1, 2011, the breed will be showing in AKC Miscellaneous Class, so come out and meet the breed!
